KULLAKAR RICE - Native Red Rice

A Native rice variety that is grown in our farm near warrangal, telangana. We got the seed from SAVE organization, Hyderabad. 

We first prepare the land for a month by planting the seed called 'Janumu' in Telugu. It is a nitrogen fixer. Then we till the janumu after a month and get the land ready to sow the Rice sapling. Rice sapling is particularly grown using jeevamrutham every week for 25 days. 

After the sapling is planted, We give jeevamrutham to the crop at regular intervals. 

Crop duration is 90 days. 

After the harvest, grains are stored in a cool dark place for over 8 months. The more the stoage period the less glycemic index it has. 

Then we dehusk the outer layer and give it to you. 

Why is it priced that way?

It's because, the regular white rice production with the addition of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the harvest would be around 30 bags per acre which would cover his costs at the price he is selling.  Here we get 8-12 bags which is way less. For the farmer to earn what he has invested, the price would be justified. BAsically you are investing in the farmer.
